Conflicts/Problems

One of the major conflicts in the book was when Kendra appeared in Kyle’s room. That was important because Kendra and Kyle had a conversation and also that was when she turned him into a beast. Since Kyle had stood her up at the dance he thought she was there to get mad. But, she just told him she was not hurt by it and he was selfish and stuck up. At first Kyle thought that Kendra was ugly and poor but then when she had appeared in his room she had looked different. Kendra revealed herself as a witch and turned Kyle into a beast. Kyle and Kendra were included in this problem because Kendra was the one to turn him because of Kyle’s selfishness towards people. When he was turned to a beast the only way he could resolve it was if he had gotten kissed by someone who truly loved him for who he was.

Another major conflict was when Linda’s father broke into Kyle’s house. When he broke in he went through his rose garden, which got Kyle even more mad. No one else knew that someone broke into the house. Kyle had threatened to kill him. He took his I.D and drugs he had in his pocket. The man then got scared because of how Kyle was a beastly figure. He immediately said he would trade him something if he did not hurt him and if he gave him back his things. Linda’s dad had offered Kyle a girlfriend. He offered for his daughter to live with Kyle in Brooklyn. Kyle then agreed but would not give him back h is things until he brought him his daughter to his house. The father then came back a few days later with his daughter and traded her off for his things. Then from that point Linda ended living with Kyle.

One of the last major conflicts was when Linda left Kyle’s house in Brooklyn to go to care for her father. It was a problem because Linda did not co0me back to him and Kyle only had little time left to break the spell. Then when he watched her on the mirror he saw her father attacking her and she yelled for Kyle. He then only had a few minutes left to break the spell. As he ran to save her he took the subway and everyone saw him. People started panicking and wanting to hurt him. He then ran out and broke the mirror, which would help him find Linda. He ran to her house with his instincts and found her. Her father then saw him and threatened to shoot him. Kyle was shot and thought he would heal but since he was loosing time he did not heal. Linda finally kissed him but it was after midnight. Kyle did not make the deadline on time. But then miraculously he turned back into Kyle Kingsbury.

Dear Friend...(Linda Owens)

Dear Linda,

I like how you are very respectful and caring for people. You still cared for own father who disrespects you. You still cared for him when he was sick and you left Adrian (Kyle). I think you are a irl who deserves much more than what you were given when you lived with your father. You cherished everything that was given to you. Like; when Adrian (Kyle) gave you the rose at the dance. I also liked how you were towards Adrian (Kyle) even though he was a beast. You hated him at first but then you ended getting along with him. You gave him respect and did not treat him any differently because of how he looked.

I agree with how you felt when you were sent to Adrian’s (Kyle) house against your own will. I felt bad that you were treated badly by your father after all the things you worked for you. I felt bad for you when he traded you off to Adrian (Kyle) without even thinking about it. He just wanted his drugs and things back, so he traded you in for it. Also you began to like Adrian (Kyle) for who he really was and that was a good thing. He no longer had any friends and you were the only person there for him to talk to. I would have done the same thing when knowing he did not have anyone around his age their even if he looked like a beast.

When you moved into the house in Brooklyn I would have done the same thing as you. Stay in the room and not come out. I thought you did good progress when you tried to get to know Adrian (Kyle) at first. But I would have tried to meet all the people sooner so i would begin to feel a bit more comfortable. If I were able to help you with your father, I would talk to someone about what happens between you and your father. Also I would not have even talked to him after he traded you off to live in Brooklyn. When you went back to care for him when he was sick you should have gotten him settled then left him. You should have done all you could to help him so you would not meet defeat against him.

Sincerely your friend,

Mackayme Gutierrez
