Setting

In the story Beastly by Alex Flinn, it takes place in the bust streets of New York City. Kyle lives with his father and goes to school at Tuttle High, a private school, which he pays for. It also takes place at the school dance where he sets up Kendra. When Kyle is transformed into a beast he moves to his small private mansion in Brooklyn. At night he likes to walk the streets and take the subway that are filled with homeless people at night but not so crowded as the day. When an accident happens, with Kyle being out he decides to no longer leave his private home in Brooklyn. Kyle feels caged up and lonely in his Brooklyn home. It is as if he is blocked off of everything. He wishes he could go out and experience the natural sun light on his skin.

Kyle is then encouraged by Will to build a green house full of roses. The garden is the only place where Kyle feels he belongs. Kyle likes the smell of the sweet red and white roses. Kyle also likes to spend his time in the house library where he reads with Linda. The room gives off a scent of brand new book smell. Linda and Kyle then go to a snow cabin where they spend time when no one is around to see Kyle in his beastly form. They experience the coolness of the snow and warmth of the cabin inside where Will and Magda help get accommodated. After Kyle breaks the curse he returns to live with Linda in his house in Brooklyn.
